Benefits of supplementing with Serrapeptase

The proteolytic enzyme serrapeptase has been widely used for decades worldwide in the treatment of many diseases and disorders.

Although widely used in clinical practice, its regulatory status varies in different countries. For now, Serrapeptase is still available as a dietary supplement and without a prescription.

Proteolytic enzymes break down proteins into amino acids. Serrapeptase’s speciality is that it breaks down non-living proteins in the human body. Non-living tissues exist in the body only when there is inflammation, swelling or blockage. Serrapeptase targets such places in the body and reduces inflammation.

In the senior bodybuidling athlete, (very) rapid results are seen in chronically inflamed shoulders, knees, elbows and even back pain. This proteolytic enzyme not only reduces pain but may also inhibit arterial plaque build-up. However, Serrapeptase should not be used if you are already taking another blood thinner!

Keep in mind that Serrapeptase is a drug that has applications in surgery and dentistry. Nevertheless, the product is freely available on the market. Make sure you inform your GP in case of long-term use.
